Triangle Shipyard Delivers PETRA-1, the new 45-meter Fast Offshore Support Vessel
UAE-based Triangle Shipyard has today completed the delivery of “PETRA-1”; the first of class and an all-new 45m Fast Offshore Support Vessel (FOSV) to the operator Marine Core & Charter. The vessel was part of a contract to build and deliver two sister vessels, the second of which is currently under build.
A ceremony to mark the completion of the construction of the vessel was held on Wednesday, February 10th, 2016 at Triangle Shipyard’s facility in Dubai Maritime City. The ceremony included a tour on the vessel in DMC water to demonstrate the unique performance of the vessel.
Designed by leading UK designers Camarc, well known designers of high speed working craft, the new state-of-the-art 45-meter Fast Offshore Support Vessel “PETRA-1”, is designed and built to provide a step change in the crewboat market in terms of speed, fuel efficiency, crew comfort and payload.
The 45-meter FOSV features a specifically developed hull design to improve both efficiency and comfort over more conventional craft. The hull form has evolved from Camarc’s well proven double chine hull, optimized and tank tested in the UK to present a refined shape forward improving both efficiencies and vertical accelerations, resulting in improved fuel economy and comfort for the operator. The vertical bow shape forward is above water only, allowing waterline length to be maximized without compromising the clean dry running and all-round seakeeping ability of the vessel.
The all-aluminum FOSV is to full BV Class with an unrestricted navigation notation and features a triple screw installation of 3x CAT C32 diesel engines, each rated at 1450hp. With this installation the vessel reaches speeds in excess of 30 Knots in a light pay load condition. A full-width main deck cabin maximizes space for up to 100 personnel with a 12 person VIP lounge and a high quality interior finish. The full-width superstructure has been carefully designed for roll angle tolerance; specific fendering and recessed windows further improve the protection when alongside. Alternative configurations with more conventional side decks are available as an option should that be a particular operator’s preference.
Increased redundancy is provided through the installation of twin bow thrusters, twin anchors, triple generators and independent steering. Furthermore, the vessel has been fitted with state-of-the-art integrated navigation systems (INS). The INS is equipped with large displays for improved control and monitoring from the bridge as well as enabling internal communications between stations. The systems fitted are to meet sea area A3 GMDSS requirements. A high-end internal finish has been adopted and noise levels below 65dBA have been achieved to maximize comfort for the operating crew and travelling personnel.
